Humility Has Its Rewards!

We know that diet and exercise is the key to great health. Humility, whether it's admitting you're wrong about something or putting yourself second for a change, is the key to great health as well. People think that humility means to let someone walk all over you and that is far from the truth. Humility simply means that you are a lover of peace and if that means letting someone have the last word, so be it.

Humility takes nothing away from you, in spite of the old phrase "Meekness is Weakness." Humility shows maturity and strength, as a person will notice or wonder why you are not easily moved or disturbed. If you have children, showing humility toward them will cause them to look at you in a different light.

It's easy to bring the hammer down on our children, telling them the dos and don'ts of life. Humility toward them shows them that we do not have all the answers. The greatest thing we could do for our children is to apologize to them when they point out our error. I guarantee that both sides will benefit from it. Our children will feel important (like they matter) and it will make us feel good to see a new self-esteem rise up in them.

Humility lets people know that you are not made of steel. Depending on your upbringing, most people grew up being seen and not heard. This gave more power to the oppressor but in the long run, they have more health issues than most. People who does not exercise humility have various cancers, ulcers, and other chronic illnesses. I don't know about you but I don't want to be recognized as the wicked witch of the North!

I was at my computer yesterday re-typing an essay because my instructor gave me a zero. I told my son Kevin about it and he was astonished. Kevin has this view of me being infallible and my telling him that I make mistakes like everyone else will no doubt comfort him if he should ever make a mistake.

Humility is a learned behavior. I understand that exercising humility for some is a hard task. However, it's never too late to learn. Start off in small steps and the best place to start is in your home. Humbling yourself to those close to you is very important because it's easy to take them for granted. The people you love will love you for it and you will obtain great health and peace in the process.
