Hands, Hips, Knees, and Feet

599289_10152822085005088_861661066_nIn lieu of my recent confession of reaching for over-the-counter pain relievers in the past, I found myself doing that today. For the first time in my lupus history I experienced pain in my toes. We lupies suffer from the usual pain and stiffness in our joints, in the areas of our hands, hips, knees, and feet. Walking could sometimes alleviate this discomfort at times. Another remedy would be soaking in a hot tub or jacuzzi if you are so fortunate but a good old-fashioned warm bath would do just as good.

I'm enjoying the beautiful weather we're having today and I know that some of you are awaiting for 90-degree temps and I salute you. I'm no sun goddess and came to the realization that direct sunlight and heat are my biggest enemies; the sun and heat can be major culprits in the flare-ups we have in our joints.

However, for you lupie daredevils, make sure that you are prepared for the summer sun on its way. Wearing sunscreen (no matter how dark your skin is) and a floppy hat is essential to avoid sun damage to your skin. Let us also limit our stress level as much as possible and stay hydrated by drinking water instead of sugary drinks.
