Robert Feder recently reported the Cubs radio analyst job was down to two ex-Cubs, Ron Coomer and Todd Hollandsworth.
Mark Gonzales had sources tell him there were still more than two finalists with a shot. Either way, my media sources say Hollandsworth is the heavy favorite, and he is expected to get the job.
Hollandsworth, 40, a Cubs outfielder from 2004 to 2005, has been the Cubs pre- and post-game analyst for Comcast SportsNet Chicago since 2009. That experience watching this bunch gives Hollandsworth a decided advantage over Coomer, who does pre and post work for Fox covering the Twins.
As for the long standing rumor that the Cubs had a deal in place for Kerry Wood to take over an analyst role, that seems to be have been proven false. I was told Wood had absolutely no interest in the job after all.
In fact, if Hollandsworth is tabbed for the radio gig, I'm told Wood would not have any interest in replacing him in the studio (for Comcast SportsNet Chicago) either.
