The Bears have gone about replenishing their linebacker inventory in short order after cutting ties with Brian Urlacher.
D.J. Williams was signed to play middle linebacker Friday and the Bears added James Anderson to replace Nick Roach on the strong side. The moves appear to give Phil Emery more flexibility and less pressure to select a middle linebacker as high as #20 in the upcoming NFL draft to fill Mr.Urlacher’s shoes long term.
However, from what I hear it is still a safe bet they will look for one in their first two picks. It’s hard to predict which "Mike" backers they could be looking at, as Emery is rumored to be looking to trade down.
I checked with the Tribune's NFL expert Dan Pompei for some names that could be there on the board anywhere from #20 to round three.
Here are 5 he says to keep an eye on that are potential fits for the Bears.
