Movie Review: The Greatest Showman (no spoilers included)

I love movies and always have. I rent most movies from the library to watch, but I do buy movies that I love and will watch again and again like the Star Wars and a Harry Potter movies. There are also some movies that must be viewed at the movie theater on the big screen like the movie I saw last night.

screen-shot-2018-01-06-at-11-08-01-amI finally saw The Greatest Showman last night. Here is my short review of the movie, without any spoilers.

Movie: The Greatest Showman

Stars 1-3 Stars bad, good great: Three stars

Did the storyline hold my attention? Yes, although it was based on the true story of PT Barnum, the story of his life and start of the circus was very interesting. They did put a lot of his life in one movie though.

Could I understand what was happening? Yes, it is a musical, but the story is pretty straightforward. As with any movie though, I do have questions about certain things and the characters. Books can dive deeper in those details, but movies can tell me a story in approximately two hours.

Did I care about at least 1 character? Definitely, there were characters are cared about more than others, and wanted to know what happened to them. Since this was based on a true story, a quick google search answered some questions, but some characters I still want to know more.

Did I think about or talk about the movie when it was over? I love to reflect on movies and the characters, alone and with others, after seeing them, and this one definitely gave me things to talk about with anyone who wants to. I love to see flawed human beings, and wonder what choices I would make if I were faced with them.

Would you see this movie a second time? I will definitely watch this movie again either by buying the DVD when it comes out or even seeing at the theater again. My daughter, Taylor, bought me a three-month subscription for Movie Pass, so I will definitely see more movies at the theater in the next few months than my budget can usually afford.
