Why do I make happiness so complicated?

As a fun writing challenge each month, we are given one hour to write about a topic our Community Manager divulges at nine pm on the last Wednesday of each month. For tonights’s blogapalooz, we were given a list of previous topics to choose from earlier in the day, but since I love this challenge, I waited to look at the list and to decide. As I re-read the list over and over, I kept coming back to "Write what your perfect day would be like”, and I wondered what that day would really look like. At different times in my life, a perfect day perhaps would look different, like if I still had little children at home or even when I was still married. Today I want to get lost in the dream of a perfect day at this point in my life. If you will allow me a little grace, in my illusory world I have more money than I do in reality, and I live in a beautiful two or three-bedroom condo.

screen-shot-2017-08-30-at-9-24-03-pmAs I arise in the morning around eight or nine, I hear the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore. I am not exactly sure where I would live for this to happen, but I love this sound. I say my morning prayers and give thanks to God as I take my coffee out on the balcony to drink, and I read a little. After getting dressed I go for a brisk walk to get my creative juices flowing and then come back to spend a little time writing. In the afternoon, my children come over to talk, hang out and have dinner. Since I don’t really like to cook or clean up, this is where my imagination comes into play again so I either order in or have a chef that prepares a delicious but healthy dinner for us all. During the day, my mother and sister stop by to visit as well. After dinner, we all walk down to the beach to watch the sun disappear into the horizon with perhaps a glass of wine in my hand. I go to sleep with thoughts of happy times spent with those I love in my mind. As I reflect on this perfect day, I realize that happiness is really very simple, I am not sure why I make it so complicated.

All through my day, no matter where I go, or what I do, I am always looking for the good. I try to find the good in people, in the world, in my life or even just in my day.
