On the north side of the building at 123 N. Jefferson Street in Chicago's West Loop, you will see partially deteriorated signs for a local tool company that went out of business in the 1970s.
The Clifford Peterson Tool Company opened nearly 100 years ago... not in this building, but across the street at 606 W. Randolph. It wasn't until the 1920s that they moved to this building, where they continued to do business for another 50 years or so.
Here are a few neat little pieces of Clifford Peterson Tool Company history on the Internet:
- A pipefitters gang box made 90 years ago on Urban Remains.
- They had their share of lawsuits. One involved a man who fell from an apparently faulty Clifford Peterson platform in 1956. A settlement was eventually reached nearly a decade later.
