Tampa Bay scored first however the missed the extra point so they only cut the Rush's lead to 6 49-41. Then afterwards the Rush defense swarmed the Storm offense and held them scoreless for 3 straight possessions. Reggie Gray and Kelvin Morris were the stars midway through the final period. Reggie Gray caught his 3rd touchdown pass from Russ Michna to take a 56-41 lead. Then Morris got his 2nd pick of the night, and he returned it 30 yards for his 2nd returned INT score of the evening. The Rush lead 63-41 with 5 minutes left in the game.
With 3 minutes left, Tampa Quarterback Stephen Wasil ran for his 2nd touchdown of the night on yet another quarterback sneak but the Rush still lead 63-48. At the 2:43 mark the Storm went for an onside kick but failed to recover giving the Rush the ball on the Tampa Bay 9 yard line. The Rush followed up with yet another touchdown reception for Reggie Gray giving him for scores on the night. The Rush lead 70-48 at the 1 minute warning. Afterwards the Rush defense held it's ground and ran out the clock for the victory.
The Rush start the 2012 season on a positive note.
