Horny Notes: April 13, 2011 -- Brewer Out, Jo-No Questionable, East Playoff Schedule, Bulls Awesome Offense?
  • Ronnie Brewer is out (thumb sprain); Joakim Noah questionable (ankle sprain) Wednesday vs. Nets (K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune). Brewer said after the game "he will play in the playoffs 'as long as it's attached.' "Tom Thibodeau had plenty to say about resting players before the playoffs after Tuesday's game where the two were injured. Matt McHale previewed Wednesday's game here.
  • The East playoff schedule is out (Matt Moore, Eye on Basketball). Bulls-Pacers at the United Center will kickoff the playoffs on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. #2 Heat vs. #7 76ers will follow at 2:30 p.m.; then, #4 Magic vs. #5 Hawks at 6:00 p.m. with the #3 Celtics vs. Knicks at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. (all times CST)
  • The Bulls have posted a monstrous 111.9 ORtg since Jan. 30 (Tim Donahue, 8 Points 9 Seconds). Jan. 30 was when Frank Vogel took over for what's-his-face in Indy after the latter was blown out by the Bulls. For perspective, the NBA's best offense is the Nuggets' 112.3 rating, followed by the Spurs' 111.8 and Heat's 111.7.

It doesn't show in the PPG because the Bulls control the pace to limit opponents' possessions. They're 27th in pace (88.6) over the same span. What stood out most is that they're only 9th over that span in eFG% (.512), so how is this happening? It much be the second-chance points which are elongating possessions. They're 1st in the NBA over that span in ORB% (.312).

  • Thibs is "drilling" Noah again for more low-post offense (K.C., ChiTrib). He played with much more energy on Tuesday in New York than in any game since recently returning from an ankle sprain -- though he re-tweaked the ankle. He scored 13 points, getting to the line for a perfect 7-for-7 on FTs, and went 2-for-3 on layups (CBSSports.com shot chart).
  • The Bulls are shooting 83% at the line in their seven April games (Basketball-Reference). A vast improvement from their .745 FT% this season (26th in the NBA)
  • Knicks fans were bitching throughout the Knickerblogger game thread of the Bulls trying to win on Tuesday (Knickerblogger; h/t: Matt McHale). There's a strong consensus among those users they absolutely hate the Bulls. I'm not very conscious of rivalries, but the one among the fans is brewing again.
  • The Celtics don't scare me anymore because they're a bunch of pussies and the Bulls are bigger, faster, and stronger. Without Kendrick Perkins and with Marquis Daniels injured, along with Delonte West not caught up to the system, ouchy again, and at the point instead of the wings, they are nothing short of soft, old, and slow. Don't give me the Shaq Card because it's middle pair at best with overcards on the board. Gerry Callahan seems to agree with more PG rhetoric (Boston Herald).
  • Carlos Boozer was named CDW/IBM Bulls Player of the Month (Bulls.com). He's averaged a double-double in this short month. Noah was named Community Player of the Year by the promotion (Bulls.com); role model, IMO.
