My mom is the EXACT opposite of me. She's nice, soft spoken, caring, easy-going and giving. That's not to say that I am mean, loud, rude, hard to please and evil (ok - a few of those adjectives pretty much nail it) but we are extremely different. I am an only child (which explains a lot, I know) and I wrote in depth about "Only-Childism" here. There really is no bond like a mother / daughter bond, but I think there is an even more special link between an only girl and her mommy.
While I only live about 40 minutes from the house I grew up in that my parents still live in, I only get to see the empty nesters a couple times a month. This is totally normal for a mid-twenties professional, but I still hear all the time how, "we never spend any special time together!"
A few weeks ago I decided to spend my (very rare) day off of work with my mom at The Drake for High Tea. It was such a fun afternoon, even though the windchill was well below zero. We spent hours laughing and enjoying each other's company - something 10 years ago I never thought would be possible (I wasn't the most pleasant teenager). If you haven't spent quality time with your mom lately, I encourage you to take a day out of the crazy world we live in and reconnect with the woman who gave you life - after all, you forever be in her debt.
Here are some photos from our tea at The Drake:
