A few months back my landlord informed my boyfriend and me that his unit across the street would be available Feb. 1. We wanted to take a look at it since we were slowly but surely growing out of our place. Between my hoarding disorder, my boyfriend's 6'4 stature and an 8 pound dog who has almost as many clothing items as his mom, we just knew we needed more space. We figured, moving sucks and we just moved in five months ago, but what the helll?! It's across the street, how bad can it be?
Wellllll....actually moving 25 feet door to door is A LOT more challenging than one may assume. Because the destination was so close, we decided not to pack (mistake number 1). Since we have a very good relationship with our landlord, he refinished the wood floors, painted all the walls and spent two full weeks getting the place ready for us. This pushed our move in date to this past weekend. For those of you who were in Chicago on Sunday, you know the weather situation was not really conducive to carrying furniture outside, but we didn't have much of a choice.
Needless to say, by Monday morning I felt like I ran a marathon and my new apartment looked like a junk yard. Mistake number 2 was not planning ahead for all the extra space. Our entire living room fits into the second bedroom of the new place and our bedroom furniture looks like dollhouse furniture in the new, big master.
Last time we moved, we had walls painted, accent decor and everything completely set up within a week. This time around it will probably be much more of a work in progress. This will also be the last time I make the conscious choice to move at the end of January in Chicago.
