Katie, The Cliffs Notes Edition

My first post on ChicagoNow! WOO, SO excited! Please check out my past posts on Living in Black and White on my now retired Wordpress site.

I typically write about specific ideas, events, happenings - but for my first post on ChicagoNow, I figured I'd write a little bit about myself. So here goes: I'm Katie - Chicago girl born and raised, lefty, only child, living in sin on the west side with my boyfriend. I work for a large advertising and PR agency in Chicago on mostly tech accounts. I write all.day.long about technologies that still make very little sense to me, so I started a blog to write about the important things in this world: food and fashion, of course! I spent my younger years working in retail and even spent a year after college working in fashion in LA. I have a pretty funky style (so I'd like to think), I'd describe it as punk rock - meets j.crew prep - meets JAP (Jewish American Princess, for those of you who aren't from the North Shore). I like to write posts on new outfits I purchase and how I re-purpose old items I really should give away to charity; into fun, inventive pieces. I also am an INCREDIBLE bargain shopper. People are always like, "OMG where did you get that?" and 9 times out of 10 my answer is a reluctant, "Forever 21."

I pretend like I love to workout and eat healthy when in actuality I LOVE McDonald's and laying on the couch. I feel like sometime around 2002 it became absolutely crucial to completely buy into this whole healthy lifestyle thing and I totally sold out and started eating quinoa and doing yoga - barf. While I'd love to completely revolt and eat like a pig, I'd probably be single and have no friends; so I guess I made the right decision. That said, I love to try new restaurants in Chicago.  I feel so fortunate to live in a city that has so many cool neighborhoods with new restaurants popping up what feels like daily. I am a pretty adventurous foodie, however, I am allergic to nuts and have had some really funny scary experiences telling the waitstaff to, " just surprise me."

When it comes to my beauty posts on tips and tricks I have learned in my past twenty something years on earth, I usually inspire/intrigue way more people that I expect. I have extremely thick, curly hair and have had about 50 bazillion treatments done to "tame the beast."  I randomly post on the trials and tribulations that go along with having a white girl fro.

Boyfriend wise, I hit the jackpot. And I'm not just saying that because I am going to force him to read my blog each week, but because every single one of my friends who has met him tells me I struck gold. I like to post about crazy situations we get ourselves into, ie. the time we went to look at apartments and inadvertently locked ourselves in a dog run for 20 minutes.

Last but definitely not least, there's Jack. My 5 year old puppy that refuses to hold his urine for more than 30 minutes. I recently brought him down to the city after a few years of having my parents watch him while I finished up graduate school. He is the definition of a creature you love to hate. He is adorable (cuter than your dog I bet) and naughty as can be (definitely naughtier than any other dog alive).

I hope you enjoyed this synopsis of my life and a little preview of what's to come from Living in Black and White. Please leave comments (once I figure out how to set that up) and interact as you see fit, I'd love to get a chance to get to know some rock star Chicago bloggers!
