In honor of Nate Dogg: Six Great Hip-Hop Features

This one just missed the cut for a few reasons, the main one being I wanted a list of pure hip-hop features -- rappers rapping with rappers. It's too easy to stand out on an R&B track as the song's lone MC. Also, I'm too old for this song. Were I 13 right now, forget about it. This song would have undoubtedly been introducing some kids at Haven (and many, many more at Wilmette) to Ludacris, whose involvement in this project impress on two levels. It is a spectacular business move for Ludacris, who gets however much money + the exposure (including nearly 500 million Youtube views). Secondly, it's an impressive showing of artistry, as Ludacris delivers all the usual Ludacris goods (speed, humor, tempo, hard syllables) while also giving a verse that is totally on target with the song. At 33, he dips back 20 years and paints the outlook of a 13-year-old in love. The epitome of the best-case scenario collaboration.
Today’s Six Songs for a Wednesday honors Nate Dogg, who passed away yesterday at the age of 41.
