I don't know what to be for Halloween

I don't  know what to be for Halloween. For many adults that would not seem strange, but I am someone who thinks about Halloween all the time. I update my Halloween Twitter account and Pinterest boards year round. I start planning the Listing Toward Halloween series months in advance. I flip lustfully through Halloween catalogs the moment they hit my mailbox. Yet, this year, I don't know what I want to be for Halloween.

I don't mean I haven't decided what to be for Halloween. That infers I have narrowed down some choices. Something like "I want to be x if I have time to put it together; otherwise, I'll be y." That's not me. Currently, I have no idea what I want to be for Halloween.

my last 3 Halloween costumes: Ghost, Elsa, and Maleficent

For the last three Halloweens I was a ghost, Elsa, and Maleficent. I have no idea what I'll be this year.

My kids had long lists of options. My son wanted to be a scorpion, a ninja, a mummy, a shadow, a character from Halo, and the Black Panther before deciding on Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. My daughter considered fairy princess, a cute white cat, a scary black cat, a poodle, the Easter Bunny, a ghost bat, a pony, and a vampire bat before deciding on the most expensive witch dress at Target, which luckily I was able to get on sale. It has buttons that look like eyeballs.

(Of course, when I say a seven-year-old and a five-year-old have decided on their Halloween costumes, I'm not so naive as to not keep the tags on and the receipts nearby in case of subsequent mind changes. But at least they each have something.)

Even my husband who often doesn't dress up at all is currently growing out his mustache with the intention of being Tom Hardy's character(s) in this particular scene from the movie Bronson:tom-hardy-bronson

Yet here I am with no idea what to be for Halloween.

I definitely have back ups. I have many of my previous costumes. Also, last year when a local children's theatre group was selling some excess costumes I picked up a spider witch dress, which would be an easy go to. But I feel like loving Halloween as much as I do I should have a Halloween costume that is really clever and dramatic that I'm super excited about. I just don't know what that is.

What do you think I should be? What do you want to be?
