Forget about Oprah's Favorite Things: Final Season Guests are the Real Gift

Favorite Things--Shmavorite Things...you can keep the 3D TV--I have no use for a dog colored sweater--too many calories in the pot pie--what if I don't live long enough to appreciate the unveiling of the Bug in May 2011?  God knows I couldn't afford the invoice from the IRS on the items I could have scored had I been in the audience.

While I appreciated Mama Oprah Claus stripping down to her red-Christmas-themed gown for the Ultimate Favorite things, my ultimate favorite thing was Oprah's Favorite Things: The 2008 Edition...when Oprah Claus informed the salvitating audience that due to the economy, she was instead showering them with gifts from the heart.  The looks on the faces of that audience were priceless and by far the best gift I've ever received from Lady O.  Coming in a close second--the guests she's showcased thus far in this her final season.

  • Jennifer, you REALLY need to be getting paid for this!

  • For 7 years I have run a support group for women, and some of my members got together and nominated me for the Oprah Heroes Show. I had no idea that they were doing this. A few weeks later I was invited to Harpo Studios to be on this show for the volunteer work I've done for women worldwide, and I went. Everyone I spoke to before the taping that day was doing heart-felt work for their communities. From working with the homeless to counseling victims of rape, I felt honored to be in the presence of so many people who freely give of themselves. One woman I met had recently lost her job and her car! NONE of us knew that we were going to be on Oprah's Favorite Things show; I hardly even knew what Favorite Things was. Many of us are going to use our gifts for the work we are doing. After the taping, several us spoke to Oprah about this personally, and she was totally fine and honored that we would use the generosity of her show to help the work we are doing, although she did encourage us to please keep a little something for ourselves. The whole day was shocking, to say the least, but it was also really great to feel the appreciation from Oprah and her staff for the work that all the heroes in our audience do. Oh, and about the taxes--Oprah pays for them too! All I can say is that it felt wonderful to be acknowledged for the work I've done--thank you Oprah!

  • God Bless you for the selfless work you do. I'm happy to hear Oprah chose a group of such deserving people to share her favorite things with...and even more impressed to hear she's picking up the tax bill for all of you. I continue my belief that most of what Oprah does is to satisfy her big, giant ego...but my heart is warmed to know there are true heroes--everyday people like yourself that continue to make the world a better place. God Bless you and have a wonderful and happy Holiday Season! I hope you are considering "keeping" the Cruise--that sounds like a dream holiday you deserve!! Enjoy.
