Last night, Chicagoans experienced the excitement of the 2010 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony from miles away. Swarovski and NBC 5's LeeAnn Trotter hosted an open-to-the-public viewing party of the NBC broadcast at the Swarovski Boutique on Michigan Avenue. Chicagoans watched the excitement on TV while shopping in the boutique.
To get into the holiday spirit, shoppers were asked to help Swarovski decorate a tree that will be donated to Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) for the holidays. Using a self-help, empowerment approach, CAWC provides shelter for women and children, as well as counseling, advocacy, and a 24-hour hotline for people affected by domestic violence.
This is the seventh year the Swarovski Star will crown the world-famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The star's 12 rays are outfitted with 720 LED bulbs on 3,000 feet of wire to create a dazzling twinkling effect through customized light sequencing. It is the largest star to ever grace the Rockefeller Center tree.
