Really, Pope Benedict? Really?

Liberal Catholics, AIDS activists and health officials on Sunday welcomed Pope Benedict's comments that using condoms may sometimes be justified to stop the spread of the HIV/AIDS disease. The Pope cites the example of the use of condoms by male prostitutes as "a first step towards moralization," even though condoms are "not really the way to deal with the evil of HIV infection."

Really, Pope Benedict? Condoms should only be used by MALE prostitutes to help prevent HIV Infection, and no one else? Did you just forget about the WOMEN prostitutes? Really? Really?

How is it possible that you can say this and get away with it? I mean, no one was around you to say, 'um, Pope, that doesn't make any sense at all. You sure you want to go with that?' I mean,

Pope Benedict, do you know any prostitutes? Although, there's probably an extra fee for using condoms, did you know prostitutes charge money for sex? Therefore, are you suggesting that I should pay money to not get HIV? Really?

And, did you just include heterosexuals, then, way later included homosexuals in your statement on condom use? Really? Did you just forget about homosexuals? Really? I mean, you don't know ANY homosexuals, at all? Can't think of any homosexual priest in your church, at all? Really?

And, didn't you just tell the people of Africa last year that condoms were wrong, but, now, it's okay for prostitutes? REALLY?
And, what's taking the Catholic church so long to understand condoms limits the risk of HIV? Why are they still behind the times? Really? Shouldn't religions grow with the time? Really?

And, how is it that one man can say something completely ridiculous and it gets printed in a book, and no one stops him. Really? I mean, if I wrote something extremely ridiculous and off the wall on this blog, ChicagoNow would catch it in a second.

And, does anyone really listen to the Pope, anyway? Really? Does anyone care what he says? Really?

  • You posted this on Nov. 22. The next day the Vatican expanded on the Pope's words by applying condom use to women, men, and transsexuals.

Moreover, keep in mind homosexuality carries the death penalty in five officially Muslim nations: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Mauritania, Sudan, and Yemen. Actually the maximum punishment for homosexuality in Saudi Arabia is PUBLIC execution, not a pretty sight if you picture something like that happening in front of the Tribune Building. Homosexuality formerly carried the death penalty in Afghanistan under the Taliban until we kicked them out, and in Iraq until Saddam Hussein got punked by our marines. In Muslim nations like Bahrain, Qatar, Algeria and the Maldives, homosexuality is punished with jail time, heavy fines or physical punishment (i.e. whippings). In Egypt, homosexuals have been the victims of so-called "morality" laws, whatever those are.

You can bash the Pope all you want, we live in a Western country that provides the freedom to criticize religions and leaders (and some of his priests actually deserve the criticism). Nonetheless, there are far worse crimes occurring in this world against homosexuals outside the sphere of the Catholic Church, and mostly emitting from some backward-thinking Muslim countries still clinging to a centuries old and out-dated practice of crime and punishment. It's good to point some venom toward them as well. After all, nobody listens to the Pope anyways, right? Really?
