The Grainery Meat Compay, Your Go-To Processor

The Grainery Meat Compay, Your Go-To Processor

As many of you have read, this year I was fortunate enough to take a nice buck on opening day this year.  By the time I field dressed the deer, dragged it back to my truck and was able to collect myself it was already 8:30pm. It was too late to get to the processor, but I knew with the cold evening there would be no worry about waiting till the next morning.

Now, I have processed my own deer in the past, however, there just was no place for me to properly hang and dress this large deer.  I had decided that I would have to find a local processor to do the work.  Well, word of mouth got to me about a wonderful place located up in Antioch, IL.  The Grainery Meat Company.
My experience with these people was one that had to be written down.  The Grainery Meat Company is a family owned business and has been since 1987.  Jay Hendershot’s father opened the business and Jay had been working with his father since the doors opened.  By 1995 they had over 5 stores in the Chicago area.  They were a full service butcher shop where customer service was the key to their business.

In 1995 Jay’s father and founder of the business passed away and Jay and his wife, Jennifer picked up where he left off.  Since then Jay has consolidated the stores down and only runs the one shop located at 25433 Route 173 in Antioch Illinois.  “It’s a family business” said Jay.  “We are locally owned and run” and “we want to stay that way” he goes on to tell me.

Jay welcomes all to his shop and especially hunters.   He has wild game come in from all over the US and even has an occasional sports celebrity or two utilize his services.   His shop may be small in size, but not in heart.

It has always been hard to find an honest, trustworthy meat processor that does wild game for the hunters.  It is even harder to find one that is willing to go out of his way to accommodate the customer as much as Jay does.   Jay and Jennifer work as a team packing meat, making sausage, and they even have their own smoker on the premises so that they can produce some of that wonderful Venison smoked sausage we have all come to love.

Hunters are always looking for a place to be able to trust their game with and The Grainery is right up there on the top of my list.   There are no added “extras” in the pricing, it is plain and simple and you even have the choice of several types of sausage and brats.  Your game is cut to your specifications.  There are no surprises when you go to pick up your game.

So file this one in your records as a “go to” for all your processing needs.  You may not need it today, or tomorrow, but when you do need The Grainery they will be ready and willing to help you out.   Give Jay a call at 847-838-6328 and ask him for yourself.
