President Donald Trump is in real trouble with the ongoing Russia investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He could be facing years in jail if he colluded with Russia to help him win the Presidential election. President Trump could also be facing additional charges for money laundering, running an illegal election campaign, and violation of finance laws. Mueller has shown that he is serious and is running a smart investigation by filing federal and state charges in multiple states. President Trump can pardon the federal charges but only the Governor in the state of the state charges can pardon the state charges. Right now the Governor of New York (where President Trump could be facing charges) is a Democratic Governor named Andrew Cuomo. So President Trump’s chance of being pardon by a Democratic Governor is slim to none.
In President Trump’s case he only has one option to stop the Mueller investigation. The only option President Trump has to stop the investigation is to step down as President. If he fire Robert Mueller or Rod Rosenstein it would lead to rallies all over the country with millions of people demanding his arrest and impeachment. However, if President Trump steps down, Mike Pence would become the President and would be allowed to choose his own cabinet members for his administration. President Pence would be allowed (with less criticism) to fire Jeff Sessions and Rod Rosenstein which would likely end Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
