Keep your neck long and shoulders down. Another way to think of it is lowering or depressing the shoulders into your back.
It used to be that just the boutique gyms had all the trendy toys.  In fact, many small gyms built their training platform around tools categorized today as ‘function fitness.’  But tires, ropes and medicine balls are all conventional tools for weight loss.  Now that these fitness tools are part of the HIIT (high intensity... Pain in your back?

Pain in your back?
One of my favorite exercises on the resist-a-ball is the back bend over the ball.  The longer I sit, the more my lower back stiffens up.  The tightening is usually my SI joint (or tailbone) locking up (or at least the soft tissue, muscles, ligaments tightening up).  Some of you might wait it out to... 5 Best Fitness Gadgets

1.	Iron Gym Pull Up Bar ($30, target.com)- this is the best $30 my husband has ever spent on fitness equipment. Despite owning a gym, he is a sucker for gadgets. This pull up bar works fantastic. It does not ruin my doorframe and had held up for a couple years now considering it gets used 2-3 times a week.

Does running on a treadmil place less stress on your knees than the pavement?

Does running on a treadmil place less stress on your knees than the pavement?
I have to admit that this does sound like a truthful statement.  But if you think about the physics behind force which is mass x acceleration, you can see how this is a myth.  The amount of force on the joints (the knees and ankles in particular)  is the same whether you are running on... Are 5 finger shoes really better than running shoes?

Are 5 finger shoes really better than running shoes?
Most trainers who work in a gym have seen an increase of people wearing the 5-finger shoes.  It seems very popular with the body building crew and the person who sits on the recumbent bike.  But surprisingly, this shoe that reminds me of an Aquaman costume has had growing double-digit sales since early 2010 when the shoe became a trend...

I will admit that planks in general are really in style for trainers.  The truth is they are a really perfect exercise.  When you add dumbbells, movement, explosive actions they evolve to perfect-plus (+).  Also trendy in fitness is, ‘working the core.’  Not only doing lots of ‘core’ training, but also saying the word ‘core.’  I feel self-conscious sometimes saying – ‘do you feel your core when you do this?’ Almost like I did in the 90s asking clients if they feel the burn...

Here my favorite 5 exercises to strengthen the IT Band.  They are not all specifically IT band exercises, but they are for the overall health of the IT.  These 5 exercises are my top 5 for keeping the IT band healthy.  Most articles on the IT band always reference runners. The truth is anyone with an athletic hobby that has a lot of repetitive movement should be incorporating these exercises...

8 Best Health-Driven Holiday Gifts:Affordable Online Deals for Today
I go through phases where I am addicted to online deal shopping.  Many times however, I end up over-accumulating coupons, forget about them and lose their value.  But, when I buy them for someone else, I get the enjoyment of buying something for a great price without the risk of forgetting about them myself.  So... Hard Abs: Advanced Core Exercises on a Pulley Strap

Thumbnail image for 'Hard Abs: Advanced Core Exercises on a Pulley Strap'
Whenever you train your core, other muscle groups get dragged into the exercise.  I love the options that pulley training provides because it rarely  isolates one muscle group.  Pulley exercises often train the entire body. Most regular exercisers are familiar with TRX straps.  In which case, you know that you can get a total body... Read more »
