5 Favorite Dumbbell Exercises, Do This, NOT That!

Tricep Overhead Press - If you are standing during this exercise keep a soft bend in your knees. This exercise is challenging if you have limited shoulder joint flexibility. The goal is to keep your posture lifted and your arms parallel to each other (so the elbows point over head) and framed along the side of your head. A common mistake is the angle of the head and arms break the posture all together and the movement become very limited and unproductive. One trick to help accomplish this is to look up when doing this exercise and press your palms up to the ceiling.
Being stuck at home for a workout is a good thing. The simplest workouts are most often the best!  In fact, a couple sets of dumbbells is really all you need to create a total body strength training program.  Granted, I personally add a jump rope and abs to the mix, but I will take... Read more »

Made in Chicago: KoreFit, An all-in-1 fitness tool.

Made in Chicago: KoreFit, An all-in-1 fitness tool.
I have the pleasure of meeting so many different people in the fitness industry.  The great thing is that they all contribute to the industry in different ways.  I recently met the guys over at KoreFit.  They are located at 2023 W. Carroll Ave in the Kinzie Industrial Quarter of Chicago.  They were kind enough to drop off  a KoreFit apparatus at my gym POW! .  Whenever I have new toys, I ask students that work in the fitness industry to play with them and give feedback.  One of my students Deanna Bellamy, who also owns her own training business, Body Revolution was the perfect student to have test out the KoreFit.  She is a personal trainer who conducts training sessions often outside, using the elements of her surroundings as a means to build strength and unique fitness exercises.  Because of the adaptability of KoreFit, I thought she would love to take it on the go and give a try.   Here is her review. KoreFit has impressed me with the rebound and balance training capacity on this innovative fitness apparatus.   The combination is very exciting because of it’s variety in preventive, rehabilitating, and dynamic exercise opportunity.  Both cardiovascular and strengthening, numerous body needs can be accomplished on this piece. ...

Whenever you train your core, other muscle groups get dragged into the exercise.  I love the options that pulley training provides because it rarely  isolates one muscle group.  Pulley exercises often train the entire body. Favorite Exercise of Week: Gluts & Knee Stability

When you land, stabilize your upper body over your legs. Land with your knees bent and your butt back. Your weight should be in your heels. Avoid landing with your weight in your toes. Turn around quickly and try to keep this interval moving fast. The goal of a power interval is to build acceleration and increase intensity.
Favorite exercises are not necessarily new exercises. They are just recent exercises that have given a little revival to your body.  Sometimes new favorite exercises are just simple movements that perfectly blend into an interval series you are following or an in-home workout format that you have been trying to intensify.  New favorite exercises are...
