Pain in your back?

Pain in your back?
One of my favorite exercises on the resist-a-ball is the back bend over the ball.  The longer I sit, the more my lower back stiffens up.  The tightening is usually my SI joint (or tailbone) locking up (or at least the soft tissue, muscles, ligaments tightening up).  Some of you might wait it out to... Can you do abs everyday?

There is a difference of opinion in the fitness industry on this topic.  Many believe, like myself, that the abdominals should be treated like every other muscle group in the body.  In doing so, you would provide it with at least a 24 hour rest period in-between workouts.  Like your chest or legs, it is... What does it mean to do CORE WORK?

What does it mean to do CORE WORK?
The core is simply the mid section of your body or the muscles that comprise the torso and their corresponding ligaments and tendons.  It is in this section that all sport and functional movement originates.  It is how you have control over your center of gravity which has a direct impact on balance.  It is because of this responsibility that core exercises are critical for a healthy body.  Do not misunderstand mean, core exercises are like vegetables.  They will have a significantly positive impact on your overall health, but many people somehow  live a long healthy life without them...

5 Best Fitness Gadgets

1.	Iron Gym Pull Up Bar ($30, target.com)- this is the best $30 my husband has ever spent on fitness equipment. Despite owning a gym, he is a sucker for gadgets. This pull up bar works fantastic. It does not ruin my doorframe and had held up for a couple years now considering it gets used 2-3 times a week.

Harder Abs = Harder Planks

I will admit that planks in general are really in style for trainers.  The truth is they are a really perfect exercise.  When you add dumbbells, movement, explosive actions they evolve to perfect-plus (+).  Also trendy in fitness is, ‘working the core.’  Not only doing lots of ‘core’ training, but also saying the word ‘core.’  I feel self-conscious sometimes saying – ‘do you feel your core when you do this?’ Almost like I did in the 90s asking clients if they feel the burn...

Lose the Belly Fat: 3 Workouts that fight the fat from Thanksgiving

Lose the Belly Fat: 3 Workouts that fight the fat from Thanksgiving
Belly fat is tricky to eliminate.  In truth, there isn’t a series of exercises that target belly fat specifically.  But there are workouts and exercises that I believe lean out the mid section as by-product (so-to-speak) of the way the workout itself affects the body.    Overall key is to incorporate exercises in a high intensity... Hard Abs: Advanced Core Exercises on a Pulley Strap

Thumbnail image for 'Hard Abs: Advanced Core Exercises on a Pulley Strap'
Whenever you train your core, other muscle groups get dragged into the exercise.  I love the options that pulley training provides because it rarely  isolates one muscle group.  Pulley exercises often train the entire body. Most regular exercisers are familiar with TRX straps.  In which case, you know that you can get a total body... Read more »

Exercise of the Week: Knee Tucks on Pulley Straps

Position Two
Core, core, blah, blah.  Everyone is talking about how their core is worked.  I don’t mean to be sassy about it.  But the truth is, if you are properly doing any athletic movement, your core/abdominal area should be involved.  There really isn’t a sports movements that eliminates the muscles in your abdominal area or lower... Exercises of the Week: 6 Pack Abs, 10 Min, No Back Pain

This is a great illustration of the abdominal muscle structure. Notice how there are several sections. You want to include exercises in your routine that engage all sections and often in combination.
There is so much involved in getting a 6 pack.  As honest trainer will tell you that it is more about diet than it is about exercise, with the exception of those who have it in their genes.  You know the 24 year old guy, who drinks 4 nights a week, and only eats crap.... Read more »
