Best & Healthiest Sunscreens

Thumbnail image for productimage369501.jpgI came across a story on sunscreens on my facebook page by another mother.  It is simple information, but I felt it was worth sharing.  I get confused myself about which sun screens are comprehensive and effective for my baby and also my toddlers.  I tend to focus on them more than myself when I am out with them.  Of course I have already screwed up this season.  A couple hot Sundays past, I didn't remember to put sunblock on my daughter's arms.  The day started out with a jacket over her dress, but intense sliding and monkey bars lead to sleeveless play.  The 3 hour park visit exposed her too much.  Later that evening I saw her poor little red forearms.  I felt terrible.  Thankfully the sun was not strong enough to do severe damage.

Sunscreens should provide a broad spectrum protection, this includes UVA and UVB-sunburn.  But you want a product that does not have dangerous chemicals that penetrate the skin.   According to EWG.org (environmental working group), the best rated sunscreen products contain ZInc or Titanium minerals.  The EWG.org website suggests avoiding products that have potential hormone disruptors.  Some of their favorite products include:
  • Alba Botanica, SPF 30
  • All Terrain Aquasport, Terrasport, KidSport, SPF 30
  • Aubrey Organics Natural Sun Sport, SPF 30
  • Aveeno Baby Natural Protection Face Stick, SPF 30
  • Badger Sunscreen, SPF 30
  • Goddess Garden Baby All Natural SUnscreen, SPF 30
  • Raw Elements USA ECO Stick, SPF 30
  • TruKid Sunny Days, SPF 30
  • UV Natural Sunscreen, SPF 15
