I'm a product of the eighties. Ergo, there are some things that I'm sort of contractually obligated to be obsessed with, and I'm happy to comply. High-top sneakers, neon colors, leg warmers, blue eyeliner, Salt-n-Pepa, Electric Youth perfume, and high-fives to name a few. I could go on and on (The Cosby Show, D.A.R.E, Sweet Valley Twins, Run DMC, The Legend of Billie Jean...see?) but for now let's stick with my near insurmountable urge to high-five everyone I see doing something healthy for themselves. People sweating it out in hot yoga, the guy at Target buying a juicer, all you jerks hogging the treadmills at the gym... When I see everyone else running in the park, it makes me feel like we're all doing it together. Isn't it funny how that happens? We're doing something good for ourselves and it also ends up being helpful for someone else. Lessons, lessons.
Thanks to all of you who are getting and staying shape and inadvertently motivating me do the same. And if you're in the park running and some crazy (but wickedly beautiful) girl high-fives you out of the blue, just go with it. I'm not dangerous. I promise.
