This weekend was FAB-U-LOUS for me. I am usually all work and no play but I had a moment to play with designers, photographers, stylist, and make-up artists! At least once in awhile I think a girl needs to play dress-up, get in front of the camera and strike a pose. That's just what I did on Sunday.
As I'm continuing to embark on the "Just Nekia Nichelle" brand, I decided that I wanted to do a photoshoot before it gets too cold. The day I choose to do it, was perfect. The mild weather gave just the right energy we needed on the Indian Summer filled weekend.
My photographer, Mike Jue, has an extremely great eye for his subjects. Although Mike is a newcomer, he began his photography journey in 2011 and is already 20 steps ahead of the game. He gained experience by taking his camera every where he traveled and voilà . Mike's resume continues to grow, he has worked with Comedienne (and his soon be wife) Kelleye Howard and Comedian Calvin Evans. He has captured celebrities such as: Mindless Behavior, Jacob Latimore & Brandy. His work has also been featured in: Defender, Black Enterprise, and various online publications. So it was a no brainer why I chose Mike as my photographer.
Angela Dejun Rhodes & Sharon Kaye pulled together my fierce make-up & hair. Combined they both have over 20 years in the industry. Angela Dejun started as a MUA/Stylist 13 years ago. She has powdered the faces of : CeCe Peniston, Crystal Waters, Pia Rizza from Chicago Mob Wives, Melba Moore and Jennifer Williams of Basketball Wives. Angela’s professionalism and experience is remarkable and she has what it takes as a professional make-up artist in the industry. She’s worked at ABC News and NBC Studios for the Jenny Jones Show. Angela worked my make-up and hair, that was provided by Glorious Remy Hair, in record time.
Sharon Kaye is making her mark in the industry as well. Sharon Kaye's background extends over 10 years with skincare, make-up application, and as a certified Xtreme Lash Stylist. Her personal goal is to connect the inner and outer beauty. This year Sharon had the opportunity to work with actress Nicole Ari Parker. Sharon is the mastermind behind my beautiful lashes for the shoot.
My designers were awesome too! Borris Powell & Brandon Williamson are the most sought after designers in Chicago. Borris was the winner of the prestigious Oscars Designer Challenge in 2011 and received numerous accolades in local and national press, including Lucky and Elle. His designs have the power to make women walk a little taller and with confident in their stride. From Milan to Paris, from Amsterdam to Shanghai, he’s absorbed a sense of global ideas of the best looks for the female body. It’s those ideals he tailors into every design he creates. My signature red dress that I wore for the shoot was one of his creations and wearing it made me feel remarkable.
Brandon Williamson is just a step behind Boris. Brandon, CEO/Designer of PRSVR, designs high quality "his & her" leather pieces. The Luxury Black Track Leather pants that I wore complimented my black leather blazer that I sported. I was very honored to wear a piece by PRSVR because I know the company uses premium materials by making the entire collection using Nappa Leather, supple suede and handcrafted designs while still being conscious with 80% of the pieces made with Slaughter Free Leather. The same type of pants that I sported were also worn by Mike Epps on the red carpet at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards. Brandon flew right from Atlanta to my photoshoot! Amazing!
All these great designs were pulled together by my stylist Joseph House. Who's phenomenal! Not only did the designers come on board at last minute and make me look FAB-U-LOUS but Joseph did as well. He immediately met with me to shop for some pieces to wear. Joseph's motto is "before you can impress someone with your personality, you impress them with your appearance." This weekend he accentuated both!
This weekend was documented by Chucky Tony, who is a talented full-time student at Illinois Center for Broadcasting and videographer as well as Jordan Levi, of Two 3 Zone, who took some of the behind-the-scenes photos. Lastly, I would like to give a special thanks to Jacinta Fisher of LFPROMO for providing some clothing pieces as well.
What a great team of people I had the opportunity to work with. I am grateful to know, work with & meet truly talented people. I may not have all the money in the world but the people that surround me keep me RICH & FAB-U-LOUS! Be sure to check back for the exclusive behind-the-scenes video but for now enjoy the pictures below.
