The Chicago West Side Music Festival launched the only free concert series on the westside this past Saturday (July 21st). Grammy Award winning artist Rhymefest hosted the "Chicago's Home Grown Talent" concert which featured some of the city's top performing artist. This important community event took place in Douglas Park drawing a successful and peaceful turnout in the community.
The Chicago West Side Music Festival is comprised of 3 concert series each concert will provide a different musical atmosphere to each location, showcasing national and local talent. “Chicago’s Home Grown Talent” featured the Chris Davis Jazztet, Sidewalk Chalk, Jason Ferguson, Natalie Oliveri and more.
There was music from multiple genres (Hip-Hop, Rap, Gospel, Live band, Salsa, Dance, R&B, etc) and the community loved it. The extreme heat didn't stop the 500 community members who came out and supported. Elected officials came out to support us as well, Commissioner McGowan, St. Rep Lilly, and Mayor Emanuel all made and appearance.
