Lots of headlines lately about Jonathan Toews as a candidate for the Hart Trophy (MVP) in the NHL.
The Blackhawks captain has made a serious run. Every goal he scores seems to be a timely one. He, along with the other top-end guys on the team, have helped resuscitate the Hawks season.
But this statement from Patrick Sharp -- on the postgame show with Troy Murray and me -- after Monday's win against the Sharks really resonated.
"He's playing the best stretch of hockey I've seen him as a Blackhawk," Sharp said.
Think about that for a second. This is the same guy who was named the 2010 NHL playoff MVP. And remember he's 22 years old.
Toews may or may not win the award this year. There are several players who could be chosen (The Sedins, Steven Stamkos, Tim Thomas, Carey Price). If he stays healthy, Toews will be in the Hart conversation for the next 10 to 15 years.
