The San Jose Sharks have put the Blackhawks in a tight salary spot, signing Niklas Hjalmarsson to an offer sheet.
My guess: the Blackhawks will match.
Young, puck-moving defensemen, that can block shots and play with an edge are a rare commodity in "The Apple". Moreover, Hjalmarsson is accustomed to the system and he and Brian Campbell have chemistry together.
The Hjlamarsson offer sheet is far greater than what the team has in mind. It could cost the team Niemi (or someone else). However, the Blackhawks and the Red Wings have shown, recently, that the Stanley Cup can be captured without an "all-star" goalie.
Blueliners like Hjalmarsson can be tough to find and even harder to replace.
