21st Annual Wreathing of the Lions at Art Institute

One of the most noticeable things about The Art Institue of Chicago are the legendary lions that guard the centuries of artistic genius inside the building.  For 20 years, these lions have donned traditional evergreen wreaths at the Michigan Avenue entrance in a yearly celebration.  Bring family and friends to this magnificent and free event to celebrate the holiday season, November 23, 2012  10:00am–3:00pm.

From the website:

Start the holidays with a roar at this Chicago family favorite. Our beloved lions don their traditional evergreen wreaths at the Michigan Avenue entrance as you warm up with complimentary hot chocolate and the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band offers musical tidings of joy.

At 10:30 a.m., following the outdoor ceremony on the Michigan Avenue steps, families are invited to stop by the Ryan Education Center to create wreaths decorated with small golden embossed relief sculptures inspired by the ancient artworks on view in Of Gods and Glamour and engage in activites from our special guest, the National Hellenic Museum.
