American Cougars of every subspecies are invited to the 2nd Annual National Cougar Convention on June 26, 2010, where they will compete for the title of Miss Cougar America. Chicago Cubs, the young men in attendance, will decide who wins the contest. The crown will also include a free trip on The International Cougar Cruise. To participate, the cougar need only be a woman, present, legally single, and at least 35-years-old.
This convention is merely one aspect of a growing culture of singles events geared toward cougars. Keynote speaker Rich Gosse discusses the empowering nature of this event exclaiming:
"Age discrimination is perhaps the most pervasive prejudice in American Society. Older women, in particular, are victimized by our youth-obsessed society. They are regarded as non-sexy... The truth is that there are millions of American men who find older women attractive."
