To the Nazis and white supremacists who marched in Charlottesville chanting “You will not replace us” and “Jews will not replace us,” you’re too late. You’ve already been replaced.
For quite some time I have felt a pressing need to say something from my perspective, as an observer of this national shame that is your President Trump, as a child of a Holocaust survivor, and as an embarrassed white man who is also the husband of an African-American woman. It’s difficult to keep submerging my feelings when I actually have a forum available to me to get them into the open.
You cried about your "economic anxiety" and convinced many middle of the roaders during the 2016 election that you had legitimate concerns about the path the country was taking. A minority of the voting public agreed with you and, by virtue of the Constitution, Trump was elected.
Well, you got what you wanted – a president who has done nothing to help you during his first 200 days in office.
But, as the news of the past few days clearly indicates, both you and your president don’t have economics in mind. Your true motivations, which seem to be the President's as well, are not based on your declining place in America’s economy, but rather grounded in the same philosophies that killed millions of people during World War II. Those racist, anti-Semitic, and fascist concepts resulted in the deaths of millions at the hands of your beloved Nazis and the deaths of American and Allied soldiers, fighting the Nazis and their vermin followers.
Now, having been replaced in jobs and in the social and economic strata of America by Jews, blacks, Mexicans and other immigrants, you’re going to come out of your holes and cry some more, but this time you're not pretending that the economy is an issue. You're not searching for legitimacy from the media or mainstream journalistic outlets who can bolster your "poor me" politics. Instead, you have proudly doffed your hoods and masks and shouted those standard, Nazi-based invectives. We hear you and we see how pathetic you are.
Because you can't seem to drag yourself up by your jackboot straps, you’ve been reduced to pizza delivery and overnight security jobs that some of you Charlottesville marchers are being fired from after being identified during your “hoods-off” display. People are not sitting idly by, but instead are using the internet to call you out and demand that you lose the limited employment that you can qualify for.
Even your "leaders" are crying more now. The US is changing and you don't like it. "Blood and soil" you say as you march through Charlottesville wearing your Donald Trump uniforms and carrying your Bed, Bath and Beyond tiki torches. Christopher Cantwell was featured in the ViceNews report Monday, August 14, as the tough guy leader carrying guns and threatening to kill people.
But, hey look at the big Nazi cry baby today after he learned that there might be a warrant out for his arrest. Poor Nazi doesn't want to go to jail.
The Nazis today are right about something - I'll give them that. The world is changing and it's changing for me too. I will address the Nazis differently than my ancestors did. My great grandparents and great aunts and uncles heard the banging on their doors and got on the trains that took them to Birchenau and Auschwitz. They were convinced that they'd be ok. The Nazis killed them.
The crying Nazis have helped convince me of something else as well. I no longer feel "white guilt" for having worked hard to become a fair-minded, contributing member of American society. Rather, there is no chance that I will go willingly or sit idly by while Nazis bring their disenfranchised, unemployed and unemployable rage to my front door. If that happens, only one of us is walking away.
You've already been replaced. Get used to the idea and make the best of it.
