Former New York City mayor and robber baron, Mike Bloomberg is willing to spend "whatever it takes" to support politicians who believe his tyrannical and despotic world view.
Bloomberg will spend millions to support county elected officials who voted for and back the Cook County sweetened beverage tax.
As we know, politicians in Cook County are for sale. Bloomberg spent $5 million dollars on ads supporting this ridiculous tax. He is willing to spend more to make sure the elected officials who voted for the pop tax stay in office.
According to the Sun-Times, Bloomberg dished out $20 million dollars to help enact soda taxes is San Francisco and Oakland.
Like most robber barons, Bloomberg is a tyrant and despot. He is using his money as power to control people's lives. Bloomberg knows that politicians always have their hands out for campaign contributions. They will gladly sell their souls for cash or in kind donations.
The soda tax is so unpopular, some of Toni Preckwinkle's staunchest supporters may not back or vote for her in the next election.
Bloomberg never met a tax he did not like except the taxes he avoids paying. He believes in taxing people to death. Now he is putting his money where his mouth is.
Bloomberg will buy the Cook County Board of Commissioners and its president, Toni Preckwinkle. He will own Cook County. The Commissioners will be his minions.
Across the board, between 50 and 60 percent of people polled are against the soda tax and want it repealed. The numbers will get higher as the primary election draws near.
Eight Cook County Commissioners who backed the pop tax fear they will be unemployed. They will need all the money and support they can get. If it comes from a despotic robber baron, so be it.
Contrary to propaganda, the soda tax is not about health or saving children. It is an easy revenue grab. Preckwinkle, her abettors, and Bloomberg know people will not stop buying soda. Taxing soda is a guaranteed revenue stream.
Preckwinkle could not raise property taxes again without major backlash. She could not lay off workers because most are patronage hires. That would alienate Democrat elected officials, who she counts on for support. Cutting or eliminating non-essential services would cause patronage hires to lose their jobs too.
Toni Preckwinkle claimed if the tax did not pass, she would have to lay off 1100 county workers. If she found 1100 workers to lay off, the county has 1100 too many employees. Probably more.
Cook County is one of the worst run governments in Illinois. The payrolls are bloated with glorified clerks pushing useless paper around in the age of technology.
Toni Preckwinkle is accusing those who support repeal of the soda tax as selling a problematic product. Toni Preckwinkle and her gang of 8 are problematic elected officials. The solution is to vote them out.
Preckwinkle fooled many progressive voters into believing she is a reformer. She is nothing of the sort. She is not a good government politician. She is a typical machine politician. She slowly and carefully built her political machine after she was elected as an alderman in the City Council. She continues to build.
The sweetened beverage tax is pure unadulterated theft. It should be repealed. If not, all the dirty Bloomberg money in the world will not save Preckwinkle and the gang of 8.
The people of Cook County are long past tired of being gouged by political malpractice and malfeasance. They are tired of paying for the lies politicians tell. They are tired of Chicken Little hacks running around claiming the sky will fall if taxes are not raised.
Bloomberg should keep his dirty money out of Chicago. It will do no good. Politicians can be bought. Voters cannot. The voters are mad as hell and will take it out on Preckwinkle and her cohorts. As it should be.
