Ebola: The heaven sent distraction

The circus clowns and carnival barkers in cable news and politics gave the nation a new major distraction, the manufactured Ebola crisis. There are cries of "Run for your lives," "Do something," "Appoint an Ebola Czar, jar, car," or something or other, impose travel bans from African countries, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

The shriekers want a moat built around America. The want alligators, crocodiles, and piranhas in the moat. They want a wall built to surround it and troops to secure the wall.

"Hands up. Don't Shoot" Cable news uses toys to demonstrate and "reconstruct their conspiracy theories about tragedies.

Remember, cable news uses toys to demonstrate and "reconstruct" their conspiracy theories about disasters and tragedies.

They also use experts who have no expertise. The Zimmerman-Martin incident was a perfect example of that.

Why does anyone give credibility to news outlets like that? The only credible people in cable news are the make-up artists-hair stylists and wardrobe departments. They sure make those talking bobble heads look great.

Politicians are practitioners of the fine art of gasbaggery. They love to get their faces in front of cameras and microphones to tout who knows what. They are the real entertainers.

There is no Ebola crisis in the United States and chances are slim to none there will be one. Slim just left town.

The Ebola crisis is nothing more than the best entertainment this year.

There are way too many experts with no expertise "advising" news outlets on Ebola. Cable news is like politics, they never underestimate the stupidity of the average American.

Others are wondering when the president is going to get off the golf course or Air Force One and do something about this faux crisis.

Look, give the guy a break. Contrary to popular belief, President Obama cannot cure the sick, make the blind see, raise the dead, make the lame think, or turn the office water cooler into a beer summit.

Should there be some kind of preventive response? Absolutely.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel addresses the media before the game.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Hospitals and emergency responders are trained in handling infected people and dead bodies- which are potential biohazards.

They do need to ramp up equipment and materiel purchases, designate specific quarantine centers, and work with local governments to assure a what if scenario does not turn into a tragedy.

Mayor Emanuel is on top of this, as Chicago is an international travel destination.

Travel bans are worthless. People travel to other places from all over the world. They could hit one or more countries before arriving here. The incubation period for Ebola is estimated between 7-21 days. None are dumb enough to claim they were in contact with Ebola victims. They may be dumb enough to believe they will not contract the disease.

Maybe a little history is in order. Until the late 19th Century,Chicago used to suffer from cholera epidemics because of bad water.

Cholera is a disease similar to Ebola. Cholera is highly contagious. The city did not ban people from leaving Chicago. Other cities did not impose travel bans.

Troops were not sent to put boots on the ground for publicity purposes. There were no universal clean methods to handle infectious waste and pathogens.

People infected with cholera or who came in contact with infected people were quarantined or hospitalized in quarantine wards. The epidemics were usually short lived.

Like the above image, a Miasma will not swoop over the land infecting everything in its path.

You have a better chance of catching the flu or common cold than Ebola, especially if you ride pubic transportation or sit in a physician's or hospital waiting room. More Americans will die from the flu this year than Ebola.

Calm down, take a deep breath, and return to rationality. Then start worrying about real issues. There is an election coming up. You need to decide which liars you will elect or reelect to public office.

The Ebola scare is a pseudo crisis. It is a heaven sent distraction the politicians were praying for.

All the other real issues and problems are put on the back burner for now. This is what your politicians and other politicos want.

Without distractions like Ebola, you would be forced to face the fact that things are not as rosy as the politicians claim they are.

You would be forced to concede things are not better than they were two, four, or six years ago.

From what is seen on the news and social media the distraction is working. It is amusing to see how easy it is to trick supposed intelligent people.
