Chicago commemorated Memorial Day with a wreath laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame in Daley Plaza and a parade down State Street. Thousands of people lined the parade route from Lake to Van Buren Street.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel presided over the ceremony in Daley Plaza and then led the parade with Congresswoman and Army Lieutenant Colonel, Tammy Duckworth.
While the ceremony marked those who perished in service to our country, there were three distinct groups of people attending. The veterans of past wars, current military personnel and the future military, groups from the various ROTC units in Chicago.
According to the mayor, the Chicago Memorial Day Parade is largest in the country.
