Yesterday Walmart employees, members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, and SEIU, protested the employment practices of Walmart. The protest was held at Heritage Green Park on Des Plaines and Adams Streets. After several speeches the protesters marched to the Walmart Express at Monroe and Jefferson Streets, about one block away.
About one hundred demonstrators participated in the protest and march. They were demanding changes in Walmart's employment practices, higher pay, more hours, better health care, and other issues. They also demanded Walmart stop retaliating against employees who demanded better working conditions.
Several protesters were taken into custody in a pre-arranged arrest. They were issued citations and released.
