MLK Day advice from the first female comedian, Jackie "Moms" Mabley!

Many credit Phyllis Diller with being the first female comedian, but true fans of the genre beg to differ. Thirty years prior to Miss Diller was a woman who, by all means, was a trailblazer for both women, lesbians, and the black community.

Jackie "Moms" Mabley was an African American woman who broke the glass microphone and forged her own way as a stand-up comedian. And there was a reason they called her "Mr. Moms", as she was one of the first openly gay entertainers.

She was the queen of down-to-earth advice and, since it's Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I decided that we all needed a little "preachin'" from Moms!

So, sit back, relax, and let Moms put you in ya place!

1. Mom on Children: "I like to teach children to live, 'cause I didn't have an opportunity to live!"

2. Moms on Nostalgia: "Let me tell ya about the old days...you couldn't do nothin' in the old days!"

3. Moms on Friends: "I don't understand middle-age people nowadays!"

4. Moms on Proper Undergarments: "Yeah...yeah...a fried egg!"

5. Moms on Crazy People: "Do you know if you see anybody acting normal nowadays? They prob'ly just not well!"

So, children, take Mom's advice and don't be dumbasses now!

But, the most important advice she can give is to remember the trailblazers of our past and pay tribute to "what they stood for."

Let's all raise a glass for "Abraham, Martin, and John"... and Moms!
