As a blogger, mother, middle aged adult striving to grow, I find myself always moving, going, doing without a moment to be still and reflect. I know this is not abnormal because there are thousands of blogs with similar themes and ideas about that very same topic! However, when God has a plan and a purpose for your life, there comes a time where your going, moving, doing will be halted because there is GREATER ahead of you. If not, you will abort the purpose growing inside of you and wander about aimlessly!
If you have noticed, I have not blogged in a moment. During this same time, I stopped doing many of the things I used to do, not because I wanted to, but because I had to. During this time, I continuously prayed, fasted, and sat in the presence of God. Yes, I got "spiritually" naked and laid on the floor praying and communicating with God until I was released (I know this may sound strange to some, but you MUST try it!!). It was then that He gave me some things that I had to share with YOU!
We were all created with a purpose. This purpose is why we were created and continue to thrive! If the purpose had been fulfilled, we would no longer be necessary.
There are many reasons outside of fear that cause us to abort our purpose, here are the 3 P's that I want to share today:
We surround ourselves with loved ones, friends and mentors who support our goals, visions and dreams. It becomes a problem when we look to them as our sole source for glorification, gratification, and elevation! If God says do it, we do not need the confirmation of man! Move forward.
Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. Matthew 6:1-5
We already know this as a trick of the enemy, but do you recognize that even promotional victories/accolades/assignments that are not God Focused are included as tools of procrastination?!?! Per Merriam-Webster, procrastination means "to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done". That means Inaccurately Prioritizing!! I know I know I know!! Yes, I'll share my own testimony here...I was given an assignment to read the Bible in one year! For the bible says we must
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
So let me tell you, during this diligent period of my life, I was promoted at church, creating awesome assignments for Sunday School, given opportunities at work and major responsibilities in several organizations!! On top of that, I found some awesome deals to fly out of the country (you know I love to travel) and guess what ?!?....Because I believed I was going about doing "my Father's business", I didn't have to do what I was called to do. In fact, my assignments had me reading the bible, right? NOT!!
Yes you can prosper in several areas, in fact God blesses us with some of the promotions (I SAID SOME-be careful who's promoting you and why....more later),but make time to do what you have been called to do FIRST! Do not allow distractions and self promotion to shift your focus and allow you to procrastinate on achieving your purpose. There are 24 hours in a day! Make good use of them!
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:15-17
3. Purpose Perversion
When we hear the word "perversion" we being to think of sick men and children (e.g. Jared...sorry/not sorry) but perversion also means the process of improperly changing something that is good (Merriam-Webster). Which means that when God gives you a purpose, you clearly know what you are called to do, yet you sit on the purpose, misuse the purpose/gifting, or use it to gain wealth/notoriety/fame. Again, your gift will make room for you, but it is according to God's plan and timing. When you lead yourself, void of His direction, it may lead to folly.
Here's an example, I have
a friend a past church leader that has been gifted with the intellect to know and share God's word. When this person preaches/teaches/speaks, it's as if God has personally given him what to say for each and every person in the room. HOWEVER, the message is VOID of Spirit! The person has used this gift/his purpose and perverted it to gain lustful relationships and powerful positions and it has left him void. The skill is there, but the power is gone.
That is a scary thought, particularly if you are not aware. "How can they not know?" you ask....They know not because they ask not.
There has been a confusion between elevation of man and elevation by God.
So, my friends, continue to watch and pray! Seek His face and defeat the enemy which comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (mailnly by using the 3 P's).
I will continuously pray for you as you pray for me.
