When I realized that Chi Omega's semiformal was quickly approaching, I started to worry. The word "semiformal" caused my high school dance memories to come flooding back to me: finding a dress, realizing you hate the dress the day of the dance, doing your hair and screwing it up, organizing what you and your friends will do beforehand, and worst of all, worrying about getting a date, because the worst thing in the world would be to fly solo at a school dance.
To my relief, my sorority's semiformal was absolutely nothing like Homecoming or Turnabout or Prom. It was almost completely stress-free. I simply pulled out one of my old dresses, slid on some heels, had a friend curl my hair, and asked one of my guy friends to go with me. And you know what? It was a blast. Ours was held on the top floor of Cly's, a popular bar on campus. I laughed and danced and took pictures and truly had a great time.
And at the end of the night, I said a silent "phew!" Thank God college dances are nothing like high school ones.
