Northwoods News

Northwoods News

It's only the beginning of March and I'm really getting the itch to head north.   I know some lakes are opening up while others still have solid ice on them, at lease as of last week.   I guess you'd call this a case of Cabin Fever.

One way for me to, Get the Cure,  of the old cabin fever is to hear about what's going on up north.  I hope you get a little relief of the cabin fever with this months newsletter from my friend, Mark Gostisha, owner of the Forest Lake Country Store.

News and other fun stuff from the north woods of Wisconsin...

Winter is winding down. Many mornings and evenings we are treated to magnificent sunrise and sunsets. Some are just breathtaking. This picture was taken over little Wood Lake last week. Come to Land O' Lakes. Come often and get you share of this beauty.

We will be open until March 19th, then we go into a seasonal closure to prepare for our summer marathon! We have made an adjustment to our winter schedule for the next few weeks; we will be closed on Saturdays at 4 PM.

There will also be a special closure on Friday March 3rd at 4 PM. Mark is out of town and there is not enough staff available to run the store. If you are looking for dinner, consider a Take-n-Bake pizza for dinner.

May 20, 2017 White Deer Triathlon, returns to Boulder Junction on.

Racers interested in entering the 2017 White Deer Triathlon can register by visiting the White Deer Triathlon page on the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce’s website.

“We’ve had two great years of the White Deer Triathlon so far, and we already have over 200 registered as we head into 2017,” said Theresa Smith, director of the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce. “We are busy planning and looking forward to expanding the event this May. We’re encouraging racers to sign up now, secure their lodging and begin their training.”

Organizers have also added a three-person relay division so racers can team up with friends to traverse the scenic course, as well as participation medals for all athletes who finish the race. Coontail will be holding a kayak and SUP demo at North Trout lake on Saturday from 2pm to 4pm and a Pub Crawl at local bars and restaurants is being organized for Saturday evening.

More than 260 athletes registered for the 2016 White Deer Triathlon, and the event drew hundreds of spectators to Boulder Junction last spring. Registration for the 2017 White Deer Triathalon is OPEN.

Registration for triathlon series also open

Registration is also open for the Northwoods of Wisconsin (NOW) Tri-Master Series, a group of triathlons held in Vilas, Oneida and Langlade counties throughout summer. In addition to the White Deer Triathlon, the series includes the See Me Tri Triathlon (Woodruff, Aug. 12), the WILD Hodag Mini-Triathlon (Rhinelander, Aug. 26) and the Wolfman Triathlon (Langlade County, Sept. 9).

Registration for the series is just $10 per person in addition to entry fees for each triathlon. The $10 is a one-time fee regardless of how many triathlons each racer enters. Any participant who completes at least three triathlons will qualify for the NOW Tri-Master medal. Registration links for each triathlon can be found on the NOW Tri-Master Series website.
