Rocktown Adventures to Host Midwest Kayak Fishing Symposium

Kayaking and canoeing is the fastest growing water sport in the country.   I have two kayaks and am picking up my third.   It's great family fun since it's open for all ages.  This note just came in from Rocktown Adventures.   For those who want to learn, here's a great way to get started.

Rocktown Adventures, a specialty outdoor retailer and adventure club, will be hosting the first annual Midwest Kayak Fishing Symposium on May 14 and 15 at Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park, IL. This educational and family-friendly event is free and designed for anglers at all skill levels.

“We are excited to be hosting this first year event that will give anglers the opportunity to learn about the latest techniques in kayak fishing as well as try out different equipment and gear during our demo paddles,” said Kevin Versino, General Manager. “We are looking forward to making this a yearly event, so we encourage anglers from across the region to come out and participate.”

Day one of this two-day event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will include test paddles with basic paddling instruction as wellseminars on a number of kayak fishing topics such as “Cold Weather Gear,” “Safety and Rescue,” “Outfitting your Kayak,” and “Fly Fishing.” Models from NuCanoeJackson KayakNative Watercraft, and Wilderness Systems, will also be on hand.

Day two begins with a camp site breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and after participants will have the opportunity to head out on Pierce Lake and put all the skills and techniques they learned on day one into action.

Attendees can come out for both days or just one. For more information on the Midwest Kayak Fishing Symposium, please visit or call 815-636-9066.
