Forest Lake Country Store Community Newsletter
May 2016
Here we go, the start of another summer season,,,
Winter is having a hard time letting go this year, but finally we are starting to see more spring.  In the last newsletter we would have thought it was going to be an early ice-out.  Since then though, the lakes actually started to build ice again!  Snow is receding in the yards, songs of birds are filling the air, geese and ducks using the edges of the lakes that are losing their ice.  The other night we heard our first chorus of the peepers.  Now it looks like winter is on the run for good!
In our youth we would usually wind up in hot water for what my dad would call "kicking up our heels".  The other evening we had seven deer in the yard with four of them looking like last years fawns.  They were drawn by patches of grass emerging from the snow.  While the more mature mothers were intent on filling their bellies with grass the youngsters eventually turned to "kicking up their heels".  Chasing each other around the yard, in and out of the woods.  Soon they were joined by eleven turkeys.  Now the menagerie was growing.  Later a ruffed grouse strutted to the top of a snowbank to watch the show.  Emerging spring is a wonderful season in the north woods.
As the weather changes, so do our plans at the store.  Soon we will find if all the plotting and planning we have done while we are closed, reflects what our customers want or need in the north woods.  Some of our new products are outlined below.  Our wine and beer event schedule is nearly complete.  Our staffing looks pretty good but up here you can always use a couple more good hands.
And of course we look forward to seeing the summer .  The draw of the north woods is powerful for so many.  Our world, and the world of every merchant up north, is so dependent on the the seasonal fill of cabins in the north country. While we are still closed now, we will thank you in advance for the time you spend up north, and we are especially happy when you see you in the Country Store,,
