I received an email from Marcy at Hermann's Lowlife Bar and Grill. She monitors the ice condition at Nielsen's Channel by Port Barrington, IL. This is one of the first spots to ice over and allow ice anglers out on hard water. This is her report for today.
Today was a good fishing day, heard about 1 walleye caught (off the bridge!) and lotsa panfish going home to be cleaned. BUT, by afternoon today, very slushy on top & pretty creaky. I don't think tomorrow will be safe...it's rather balmy tonight...
Be safe my friends!
Yes it's better to be safe than sorry. Never take a chance on the ice. Always ice fish with a friend. Bring safety equipment like ice pics, flotation device, a long rope, ice cleats and a safety minded attitude.
