Open water is several months away, but you can experience a boatload of fishing-related fun at the Chicagoland Fishing, Travel & Outdoor Expo, held at the Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, IL from January 23-26, 2014.  And the Fishing and Outdoor Radio Show will be broadcasting live on the show's opening night, Thursday January 23rd from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.

Here's your chance to meet the Radio Show hosts Jim DaRosa and Don Dziedzina.  The Fishing and Outdoor Radio Show is a very popular long running outdoor radio show that has been on the air since 1983,making it one of the longest running outdoor radio shows in the nation. The show is heard simulcast on six stations throughout Chicagoland. The show airs on WCSJ AM 1550, WCSJ FM 103.1, WSPY FM 107.1, WSPY AM 1480, WSQR FM 93.5 and WSQR AM 1180 live every Wednesday from 6:30 - 7:30 PM.  Now you can see the show being broadcast live at the Chicagoland Fishing, Travel & Outdoor Expo.

Presented by the American Sportfishing Association, the Chicagoland Show is a sportfishing spectacular, covering the pursuit of every species. In addition to hundreds of exhibitors and seminars by the best in the business, the Expo offers amazing hands-on experiences and live demonstrations.

“The Expo offers the most outdoor fun you can have indoors,” says Tod Alberto, show manager. “There is something for everyone.”

Watch experts battle the big ones at the Hawg Trough, a 5,000-gallon fish tank filled with largemouth bass. The nation’s top pros will demonstrate the latest and greatest lures and the best techniques for using them. At the Fishing Simulator, visitors can test their skills at landing monster fish. A large screen television shows the fish you have just hooked as he jumps and dives to get away. You will feel the pull on the line as you try to reel in your catch. Grab your rod and hold on!

The Fly Fishing Pavilion lets you learn how to fly tie from an expert, receive casting instruction, and learn from some excellent instructors. This is a great opportunity for kids and adults to get hands-on advice from some masters of the craft.

Families will enjoy demonstrations by the Northern Illinois Raptor Center. The Center brings together various specialists in the areas of education, conservation, research, veterinary medicine and falconry to share information about hawks and owls. They will introduce the audience to spectacular live birds, including a Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, American Kestrel and Red-tailed Hawk while sharing fascinating facts about these raptors.

Don’t miss the exciting exhibit about the outdoors with games for kids, live animals, nature exhibits and more. It’s great fun for all ages!

Sunday is Family Fun Day! Children age 11 and under get FREE admission to the show when accompanied by a paying adult, and the first 100 children get a Plano Tackle Box. Among Sunday’s offerings is a Scavenger Hunt. Kids will receive a checklist and once they have visited all the Kid Fun activities and had their list stamped, they can claim a prize at the Grand Prize Giveaway booth.

Sunday also features BASSMaster’s CastingKids, presented by the Illinois BASS Federation Nation (IBFN). The Casting Kids program introduces children to the exciting pastime of fishing through a fun-filled contest. The contest is open to kids in two age groups--7 to 10 and 11 to 14. The CastingKids competition is similar to the NFL’s Punt, Pass and Kick events, except in these contests children must cast, pitch and flip--important skills used in catching fish. Scoring is based on a points system with the child who accumulates the most points winning the contest. During the last hour of the competition, IBFN will also conduct the Illinois CastingKids State Championships. Since its inception, CastingKids has taught more than one million kids about fishing, and given out more than $1,500,000 in cash, prizes and scholarships.

Bring the family and don’t miss Illinois' greatest sportfishing show! From bass to musky, walleye to pike, and bluegill to salmon, this show covers it all. The outdoor extravaganza features a wide range of exhibitors, including major tackle manufacturers, boat manufacturers, local fishing tackle retailers, lodges, guides and camps from throughout North America and beyond, travel destinations, local fishing clubs, taxidermists, and much more.
