Northwoods News

I'm counting the days for my return to the Northwoods.  Next week, my daughter Lisa and I are heading north for a week of muskie fishing and more.  The weather has been relatively mild up there lately and Indian Summer should be with us next week, at least I hope so.  We'll see if the bass are biting, maybe the walleye or crappies.  No matter what, we'll have some fun.

On the agenda is stopping in to see our friends Mark and Kris at the Forest Lake Country Store.  Here's their latest newsletter.

Forest Lake Country Store - Great food and a whole lot more,,,

October 2013 News from the Northwoods

Fall color is still going strong. The season started slowly. Small patches of color would appear almost magically. Talking to Gail Mallick outside church one day she stated it perfectly. It is like fireworks. You look and see nothing, a second later there was a burst of color. For a couple weeks we have been treated to these giant Optical BOOMS! There was some loss of color in recent rains, but there are still a lot of green leaves that need to change offering hopes for a many more days of color!

This time of year is a little idyllic. The frantic pace of summer is over, the roads are less crowded, giant landing nets in trailered boats tells us musky anglers are searching for a trophy. Passing bicyclists are still enjoying their rides but with a little heavier clothing. The small of wood smoke wafts thru the air on evening walks.

If you have not made it up to enjoy the fall color it should easily hold out ‘til this weekend.

New in the Store
One of our favorite items is Chipless Wonder cookies. Recently we added Oatmeal Raisin cookies from the same company. These are another great option to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Fall beers continue to arrive, and unfortunately sell real fast! If you like Octoberfest beers stop in and see what we have available. Each week the selection is a little bit different.

October 17th Simioni Imports Wine Tasting 5:30 PM with Bob Simeone
Last spring we hosted Bob and Danny Simeone for a small tasting of their fine wines. It was an outstanding educational and tasting opportunity for some truly unique wines.

Bob has merged his rigorous business travel schedule with his passion for all things wine and food and become an importer for wines. In his travels around the world Bob enjoyed wines from small boutique Italian wineries that were not available in the USA. By working with these small wineries, Bob has assembled a portfolio of very unique wines. All small production and all very low sulfites. In spring we tried about eight wines, this fall we will explore different wines from the Simioni portfolio.

Reservations are required for the event. Cost is $20 per person and includes all wines and palate cleansers at each table. You can stop at the store to make your reservation or call the store with your credit card number to reserve your spot. The last tasting sold out in three days. Do not dawdle making your reservation for this tasting.

November 7th A Night of Pinot Noir 6PM – 8PM with Nina Martin
We will return to an open house format wine tasting, and focus the evening on Pinot Noir. You will see this great wine presented from California, Oregon, Italy and more. This delicate wine is becoming one of our best selling varietals and for a good reason; they are delicious!
This is an open house tasting rather than a classroom style tasting. Cost is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. This cost will cover tastes of 6 different Pinot Noirs! Stop by the store to sign up or plan to arrive on the night of the event.
November 14th Wine 101 Class 5:30 PM

This class is designed to educate novice wine drinkers. The materials cover a year in a vineyard, grape varietals, aad a review of how wine is made. This is followed by a tasting of wines from the major varietals; Whites are Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Savignion Blanc, and Chardonnay. The Reds are Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.

Class is limited to 24 attendees and the cost is just $12 per person. Reservations are required to hold your seat. Stop at the store or call with your credit card number to reserve your spot!

Here is something from our daughter Stephanie. We are so proud of her efforts to get healthy and look great. We are getting to the time of year that can make us all a little sedentary, then making New Year’s resolutions to cure it. Here is her take on health and fitness:
Growing up, it seemed I could eat whatever I wanted and not put on any weight. Later in high school and then my college years it seemed to all catch up and then after two pregnancies, I realize I had to do something big in order to get back in shape and get healthy.

In years past, I had tried all sorts of diets, diet pills, the It Works wraps, even starving myself. After still feeling lousy for a couple years, I realized that the only thing that was going to change me was good ol' fashioned healthy diet and exercise!

I was only a short ways into my journey when I was presented with the opportunity to have my own business, and knew this was something I wanted to do. Not only would I be helping other people get to where I was at, I would be helping myself stay motivated and continue on my own journey as well! The most important thing was I wanted to set a good example for my own kids.

I started my own company in health/fitness with the company that makes P90x, Turbo Fire, and Insanity, etc. Many of you may have heard of those programs, if not I am here to explain them to you. I personally love their products and wanted to really get as healthy as I can while helping others. Everything is home based and no gym is required. Once you pick your program and commit to doing it and drinking your Shakeology (a completely natural, uber healthy, fabulous meal replacement smoothie) The programs I have chosen, along with Shakeology daily, have given me more energy than I thought was possible and has helped me remove and now keep off 55 lbs of pregnancy weight!

I will be here to coach you along the entire way. Some of my challengers have entered their before and after pictures to win all sorts of awesome prizes, but the most important part is you are on your way to a fit and healthy future! Please feel free to follow me on Facebook to learn more information visit https://www.facebook.com/StephanieCainBBCoach or email me at stephcainbbcoach@yahoo.com

I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and helping improve your health and I am already excited to see some of your own "after" pictures!
