I don't get out to fish as much as I'd like to with my daughter Lisa. I know I've should have done this more when she was younger but the little fishing that we did do, I know she enjoyed it. Now, I'm trying to make up for lost time.
This past week Lisa and I went to Cranberry Lake that's just outside of LaPorte Indiana. Cranberry is a private lake and I have a membership there. What's nice about that is that the lake is never crowded, won't ever get over fished, and with the good fish management that's going on there, I can go there at just about any time and have a great day on the water.
We fished from about 9 am to 2 pm. Lisa got the first fish and the last fish of the day and quite a few in between. All in all we got well over 40 bass. I was able to hook into one decent catfish.
Most all of our fish came on a wacky worm. They've often worked very well there. But toward the end of our day, I tied on a darter head jig tipped with a three inch motor oil color grub. I should have done this earlier. Four casts in a row and I got four bass. After one unsuccessful cast, I got another, then another and then one more. I didn't experiment with other color grubs or baits so I can't say if it was the color or the change in bait profile. Doesn't matter. It was a good day.
Both Lisa and I took some photos and want to share them here for you. We didn't get any trophy fish but that wasn't why were were there. I say we succeeded in spending some father/daughter quality time together that passed too quickly because we caught so many fish. We'll be going back to Cranberry Lake and spending more time together fishing real soon.
