Pizza, steaks and smallmouth bass

My visit to Mercer Wisconsin is just getting better and better with every passing moment.

Yesterday I fished with guide Bobby Orr.  We got a few decent northern pike and Bobby nailed a 40 inch muskie.  We got a nice segment for my Illinois Outdoors TV Show.

Throwing muskie baits makes one hungry though and what better is there than some good pizza.  Chicago... step aside because I found someone in the Northwoods who will give you a run for your money when it comes to great tasting pizza.  Jeff, Irene, Jack & Bobbie Baxter of the The Hideaway Resort on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage in Mercer Wisconsin have a winner.

Bobby,  Tina from the Mercer Chamber and I stopped in there last night to order some pizzas and I'll tell you, they were great.  They also have a special home made hot sauce that I tried on my pizza.  It was like putting the icing on the cake.  The Hideaway Resort is now on my "Go to" list for future trips to the Northwoods.

After getting up this morning I stopped in at the Subway in Mercer for a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee.  I ordered and egg and sausage croissant while I waited for guide Jeff Robl of Bobber Down Guide Service.   Jeff and I, along with Tina from the Mercer CC would fish for walleyes and smallmouth bass.   We all caught fish and some pretty nice walleyes and smallmouth.   I'm sharing a photo for my best fish for today.  It was a beautiful smallie and actually my largest for this year.

We had to quit fishing at about 5 because John and Ellen Jagodzinski, owners of Yago's Retreat were grilling steaks for dinner.  The local IGA food store in town provided us with some thick and juicy T-bone steaks and John cooked them to perfection.  An appitizer that he had on the table was small slices of marinaded and grilled steak.   I have to work on John to get his recipe.

Put some potatoes and pasta salad along side of the steak and you'd think that you died and went to heaven.  Well, there's always room for dessert right?  Ellen made a home made cherry and pineapple pie.  Top it off with some whipped cream and I was goin home one happy guy.

More fishing tomorrow.   Check back to see what's in store for me on another day in Mercer Wisconsin.
