I'm up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and staying at the Wildcat Lodge. Great place to be, actually... at any time of the year. The Boulder Junction area is a four seasons destination with unlimited fishing, hunting, biking, camping and an assortment of other outdoor activities.
The Wildcat Lodge is found on Big and Little Kitten Lakes which are connected to Wildcat Lake. The three lake chain is home to largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish and muskie. All three of these lakes are Class A muskie lakes. Within 10 miles of town, there are 194 different lakes that one can fish. So with 3 great lakes only footsteps from my cabin at the Wildcat Lodge and all the other lakes nearby, how can I not say that "Great fishing is not that far away."
Today, I fished with Jeff "Big Dog" Novak. Jeff is one of the Pro Staff members of the Fishing and Outdoor Radio Show. He's up here for two weeks. After a great breakfast in the dining room at the Lodge, we headed for the water. Today, our target was going to be bass.Qjust what the smallies wanted. He loves to fish a wacky worm and within 3 casts he had a 17 incher jumping out of the water. Wacky worms caught most of our fish even though we did get quite a few on Chigger Craws and spinnerbaits. Our mixed bag of smallies and largemouth bass totaled well over 80 fish for the day. One falled tree that we fished held 23 bass, largemouth and smallmouth of assorted sizes. The smallest was about 12 inches with largest, 18.
Our fishing involved several doubles were we had fish on at the same time. We had to net both of our fish in one net at the same time which caused a few tangles, but that's okay. We need a break from the action once and awhile.
I have a handful of photos to share with you... The point here is to show you the variety of fish that can be caught here at a destintion that's only about 6 hours from the south suburbs of Chicago.
