Last Friday I went hunting at the Rooster Heaven Hunt Club in Forrest, Illinois. Great place to hunt for pheasants, quail, chukar and more.
I've taped a couple TV shows there before, about 15 years ago. I did one on pheasant hunting and one one dove hunting.
Earlier this year I donated a TV show to the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Illinois for their annual raffle. The winner was Chuck Horvath. Since Chuck has a beautiful shorthaired pointer, I thought it would be a great to do a hunting show with him and Chase. When we met at Rooster Heaven, I learned that Chuck brought a German Shorthair named Zoey. It belons to Chuck's greand kids, Abby and Carter. Rooster Heaven was an excellent choice for a backdrop for our show.
Club manager Terry Cope did a fine job of setting us up with birds and a good field to work. I didn't want grass that was real high because I wanted to be able to see the dog working. Too, I didn't want it too short because I wanted to show the dog using its nose, not sight hunting. Rooster Heaven has thousands of acres that we could work but Terry got us on one that was perfect.
I grabbed many still photos from the video and added it to a gallery. Enjoy the photos and remember, "Great hunting is not that far away"
