I’m kind of excited because I’m down in Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. This is the first time for me to visit this beautiful area. I can tell you now that I should not have waited so long and I will be back.,
I’m here to fish for bass and crappie, and who know what else. If the catfish are biting I’ll go after some of them too.
I learned that the Lake of the Ozarks area has a lot of history and my trip started off with a visit to the Lake Area Chamber to gather some information. This is something that I recommend to everyone no matter where you travel to.
The Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s headquartered in the Willmore Lodge on the northeastern portion of the lake. One of the first things I learned is that some call it Lake Ozark while other call it Lake of the Ozarks.
The Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Director Karen Kopis was nice enough to give my wife Judy and me a tour of the Willmore Lodge along with some history about the lake.
The lodge was constructed in 1930. Actually, it was built with logs from the Pacific Northwest where it was assembled into the lodge. Once inspected and approved it was dismantled and shipped to Missouri to be assembled for use by the Union Electric company as an administrative and entertainment center.
Workers here on the shores of the lake were able to reassemble the lodge in only 3 months. The lodge had a total of 29 rooms with 5 guest rooms with private baths, a huge two story living room, kitchen, servants quarters and one executive suite.
Cyrus Willmore bought the lodge from Union Electric in 1945 and renamed the lodge. Today it’s used by the Chamber as a tourism office, museum and a really quaint and picturesque location for small banquets and weddings for up to 80 persons.
In this photo gallery, I’d like to share with you some of the photos that I took inside and out of the Willmore lodge. I’m sure that you’ll agree that t his is a beautiful building.
I must say that I got more than a tour at the Willmore Lodge on my first day at the Lake of the Ozarks. I heard about the lake and fish that can be caught there. That’s going to be another story.
