I just received this....
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake will be showing participants how they can begin their camping adventure and have fun through it all with a presentation of "S'more Camping Fun". This program will be presented at the Rend Lake Visitor Center on Saturday, June 5, 2010. We encourage everyone to come and experience how much fun camping in the great outdoors can be. The rangers will be giving two presentations, the first beginning at 11:00 AM and the second at 2:00 PM.
This program is for first time campers and for those that have been doing it for years.
This ranger-led program will talk about the different types of camping that Rend Lake offers and give you a hands-on experience setting up camp and building a variety of fires. The programs will also include learning some fun games and activities you can do around the campsite, learn tricks to keep those pesky pests away, and take our quiz to become a wilderness survivor. At the end of each program, you can learn about how to make some tasty treats and eat your own s'more or fruit pie. Then take home your camp survival packet that's full of tips, facts, fun activities, and campfire recipes.
"S'more Camping Fun" is part of the summer Environmental Science Series, and as always, is free and open to all. Next week's program will be Disc Golf Basics on Saturday, June 12, 2010.
The Rend Lake Visitor Center is located on the east end of the Main Dam. If you need directions or have any questions, please feel free to contact the Rend Lake Project Office at 724-2493 or the Rend Lake Visitor Center at 439-7430.
